Dr. Kik has been working in the health field since graduating from Hope College in 2006, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science. He began his career locally as a personal trainer, receiving his certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Even though he dedicated most of his time to personal training, his ultimate goal was to work in the field of physical therapy. After nearly five years as a trainer, he continued balancing work and school, eventually earning his Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Baker College of Muskegon in 2012. After passing his board exam, he began working locally in Grand Rapids at a private practice.
During his time practicing as a PTA, he developed manual therapy skills that went beyond what was typically taught in standard practice. It was also during this time that he was accepted into the University of Findlay's physical therapy bridge program—one of only two programs in the country that allows PTAs to continue their education and earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. After almost three years of traveling to Ohio for school, practicing full-time, and starting a family, he earned his doctorate and passed his board exam.
One of the key benefits of the transitional doctorate program was that he was able to immediately apply what he was learning while actively practicing. Throughout those years, he developed and refined manual techniques that he incorporated into his work to optimize patient outcomes. His diverse and unique skill set allows Dr. Kik to practice beyond the scope of standard physical therapy. While many tools are useful in the field, he believes that advanced manual skills—combined with a deep understanding of human anatomy—are essential to accurately diagnose, treat complex conditions, and deliver faster, more immediate results.
Dr. Kik is supported by his wife and two beautiful children. He enjoys staying active and spending as much time as possible with his family. He is an avid snowboarder in the winter, practices yoga, lifts weights for overall health, and is(was) an enthusiastic (if average) golfer who enjoys a high handicap when playing with friends.
Updated 2024 – Dr. Kik has relocated outside of Michigan and is currently exploring the world with his family. The practice remains alive and well, as Dr. Kik returns to Michigan every 2–3 months for a limited time to help as many patients as he truly can.
Since moving to Mexico, Dr. Kik has focused his time and attention on his practice, but is currently in the process of beginning a certification course/education program focus on his biomechanical approach. Stay tuned for what is to come.
